What are Sphynx Cats?

The Sphynx cat, also known as the Canadian Sphynx, is a breed of cat known for having little to no fur. Hairlessness in cats is a naturally occurring genetic mutation, and the Sphynx was developed through selective breeding of these animals, starting in the 1960s. Sphynx cats are sociable, playful, and entertaining pets. They love spending time with people and enjoy the company of other pets, including dogs. Sphynx cats are intelligent, and they're great at learning tricks.

Personality & Maintenance

Sphynx cats are often described as incredibly social, affectionate, and playful. They are known to be people-oriented and often form strong bonds with their human companions. These cats are typically curious, enjoying the attention they get from both their owners and other pets. Sphynx cats are also high-energy and can be very playful; however, many prefer to lounge and lay around. Despite their lack of fur, Sphynx cats still need maintenance. Their skin tends to get oily, so they need regular baths (usually about once a week) to prevent oil buildup and skin problems. Because they have no fur to protect them, they're prone to temperature changes and sunburn, so it's important to keep them warm and indoors or shield them from direct sunlight. They may also need regular ear cleaning, as the lack of fur can make them more prone to earwax buildup. Photo 5
